Ekbir, the state and city, is the strongest Baklunish settlement in the whole Flanaess. Founded by survivors of the Invoked Devastation who fled northeast, the small port-city quickly grew as northern nomads came to trade with the new settlers. The Udgru Forest offered the Baklunish folk new opportunities for gamehunting, a skill hitherto unknown to them. The dominant deklo trees offered up fine timber for building ships which ply their trade across the Drawmij Ocean. Ekbiris are relatively peaceable people, and the events of the Greyhawk Wars have largely passed them by.

Geography[]

On the misty shores of the Dramidj Ocean, at the end of the great trade route connecting the Orient and the Occident along Velverdyva and Tuflik rivers, lies a fertile and verdant land : the Caliphate of Ekbir. This country, powerful and prosperous, brandishes very high the banner of Faith, Justice and Courage.

The people of Ekbir are haunted with the memory of a glorious past, tragically swallowed up during the horror of the invoked devastation. However, under the guidance of Al'Akbar, civilization was reborn with splendour. Ekbir perpetuates brilliantly the ancient artistic and magical traditions of the baklunish empire, notably thanks to one of the strongest organizations of wizardry in the world, the Zashassar of Ekbir, keeper of the secrets of the past.

But now it's the Exalted Faith which dominates the life in the Caliphate. Governed by the priests of Al'Akbar, the qadi, defended by the faris who are among the best horsemen of the Flanaess for their nobleness and discipline, Ekbir is a great religious place. The holy city of Ekbir, the second city in the world for its population, protects the mausoleum of Al'Akbar, final destination for many pilgrims. Not far from its coasts, the mysterious Pinnacles of Azor'Alq could well be the most powerful sanctuary of good on Oerth.

If the army and navy of Ekbir are well able to repel the sworn ennemies of the Caliphate, among whom the fierce Chakyiks and the foul Ataphads, adventure takes here an epic magnitude, in the wake of great heroes of ancient times whose exploits are still praised in books, poems and songs.
